Certain consolidated subsidiaries calculated tax expenses by multiplying income before income taxes and minority interests by an effective tax rate that was reasonably estimated by applying tax effect accounting to estimated income before income taxes for the fiscal year including the first half under review.

As a result of the above change, net sales, operating profit, recurring profit and income before income taxes for the first half of consolidated year under review are larger than the amount under the previous method by 69 million yen, 81 million yen, 85million yen and 86 million yen, respectively.

In addition, operating income decreased by ¥6,860 million, and ordinary income and net income before tax and other adjustments decreased by ¥6,862 million respectively.

As a result, effect of this change was to increase operating income by 310 million yen, ordinary income and income before income taxes by 321 million yen each in the first half of the current fiscal year.

The change caused an increase of 441 million yen in net sales, and an increase of 44 million yen in operating income, ordinary income, and net income before taxes, compared with the previous method.

With regard to cash flows, although the Company recorded net income before income taxes and minority interests of ¥22.2 billion, and generated a cash inflow due to depreciation and amortization and accounts receivable, outflows from a provision for loss on discontinued operations made at the end of the previous fiscal year for the Photo Imaging Business were substantial.

As reported in the management results for the last period, sales activities ended poorly. Net income before taxes for this year was a loss of 1,331,546 thousand yen (net income before taxes for the previous consolidated fiscal year was 113,764 thousand yen), but as most of the 732,372 thousand yen extraordinary loss was a loss on valuation, and due to total depreciation of 412,644 thousand yen (including depreciation on tangible fixed assets, depreciation on intangible fixed assets, and loss on goodwill), cash flow for business operations used capital of 43,543 thousand yen (acquisition of capital for the previous consolidated fiscal year was 154,640 thousand yen).

Under these circumstances, consolidated net sales for the first three quarters of the current fiscal year were 478,063 million yen (up 78.3% compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year). Consolidated operating income and ordinary income were 68,157 million yen (compared to an operating loss of 16,098 million yen for the same period of the previous year) and 71,774 million yen (compared to an ordinary loss of 12,639 million yen for the same period of the previous year), respectively.

Under such circumstances, helped by brisk sales of its Foods Business, including frozen and chilled foods in Japan and frozen seafood products in North America, the Group recorded first quarter consolidated sales of 141,574 million yen (corresponding to the anticipated per annum achievement rate of 25.9%, up 11,715 million yen year-on-year), operating income of 5,566 million yen (anticipated p.a. achievement rate: 30.0%, up 2,176 million yen year-on-year), ordinary income of 5,162 million yen (anticipated p.a. achievement rate: 30.3%, up 1,826 million yen year-on-year) and a first-quarter net income of 2,824 million yen (anticipated p.a. achievement rate: 31.3%, up 664 million yen year-on-year).

As a result of this change, compared with the relevant figures stated in accordance with the standards used hitherto there are increases of ¥4,989 million in net sales and operating income and of ¥4,622 million in recurring profit, whereas declines of ¥366 million in non-operating income and of ¥4,622 million in extraordinary gains.

Under the present conditions, our consolidated sales were 71,812 million yen (54.1% increase from the same period last year), consolidated operating profit was 2,328 million yen (the same period last year: consolidated operating loss of 5,740 million yen), consolidated ordinary profit was 1,075 million yen (the same period last year: consolidated ordinary loss of 6,305 million yen) and consolidated net profit was 1,225 million yen (the same period last year: quarterly net loss of 6,108 million yen).
