For the current fiscal year, we also closed the Ogimachi factory at the Keihin Refinery in September as scheduled in order to deal with shrinking domestic demand.

During the first half of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2013, the six-month period from April 1, 2012 to September 30, 2012, the global economy showed signs of slowdown, with the European economy bogged by a prolonged debt problem, the U.S. economy lacking strength due to the delayed recovery in employment, and a marked slowdown of emerging economies, including China, due to the drop in exports to the European market and weakened domestic demand.

The decrease was mainly attributable to a ¥16,759 million reduction in trade notes and accounts receivable, partially offset by a ¥1,963 million increase in merchandise and product inventories, ¥1,772 million increase in raw materials and supplies inventories, and ¥2,575 million increase in buildings and structures (net of accumulated depreciation).

In the first half of the current fiscal year (the six-month period from April to September 2009), net sales were 153,891 million yen (down 48.9% compared to the same period of the previous year), operating losses were 21,620 million yen (compared to operating income of 26,282 million yen in the same period of the previous year), ordinary losses were 19,212 million yen (compared to ordinary income of 28,907 million yen in the same period of the previous year), and net losses were 16,161 million yen (compared to net income of 17,361 million yen in the same period of the previous year).

During the term under review, the Japanese economy remained in an extremely severe environment in which personal consumption and corporate earnings continued to deteriorate, amid the global financial market crisis stemming from the subprime problems, that was accelerated by the so-called Lehman shock in September last year, and the resultant sharp decline in share prices and abrupt yen appreciation.

In consequence, our interim results for this period are as follows: consolidated net sales, ¥47,126 million (8.8% lower than the same period of the previous year); consolidated operating loss, ¥1,104 million (vs. an operating income of ¥1,046 million for the same period of the previous year); consolidated ordinary loss, ¥713 million (vs. an ordinary income of ¥1,325 million for the same period of the previous year); consolidated net loss, ¥615 million (vs. a net income of ¥549 million for the same period of the previous year).
